Chelmorton Chase is a five-mile fell race in the Peak District village of Chelmorton, held annually each September. It is short but demanding, featuring over 1,000 feet of ascent across mixed terrain including road, fields, tracks, trail, and limestone paths. Entrants must be 16 or older; the race accommodates both club runners competing for prizes and local participants challenging the hill.
The route ascends over the Low, with access provided by the Allen family, before descending Main Street for a swift conclusion. Runners navigate the course using Chelly arrows, guided by numerous local marshals. Andy Wilton of Buxton set the overall course record at 30:31, and Ian Hulse, a villager, holds the locals' record. Funds have been raised for Arthritis Research, the village church, and the village institute. The first female finisher is awarded the Windross Shield.
