The Terry Fox Run Christchurch is an annual 5 km charity run and walk held in North Hagley Park, starting near the Armagh Street Bridge. It is non-competitive, with no placings or timing pressure; participants move at their own pace. The morning includes registration, a briefing, and a warm-up before the run/walk commences. The event aims to raise money for cancer research, honouring Terry Fox, the young Canadian who attempted to run across Canada after losing his right leg to cancer.
The course is flat, consisting of two laps of a 2.5 km loop within North Hagley Park, featuring pavement, grass, and gravel sections. Participants may finish after one lap (2.5 km), complete the 5 km, or continue for additional distance. Sections of the route accommodate wheelchairs, and running strollers or prams can navigate the course. It is suitable for families, children, strollers, dogs, first-time participants, and regular runners. In line with Terry Fox's principles, there is no registration fee, no minimum fundraising target, and no corporate sponsorship; all donations support the Cancer Research Trust New Zealand.
