The Valkyrie Multisport Relay is an 80-mile race based in Durango, Colorado, featuring seven distinct outdoor legs. Teams of up to nine participants divide trail running, mountain biking, road cycling, paddleboarding, open-water swimming, kayaking, and a final road run. This structure makes the day resemble a shared expedition more than a typical running relay.
The course incorporates Durango’s trails, roads, lakes, and river sections, requiring teams to have diverse athletic skills and varied strategies. While open to all skill levels, the race's format is complex, leading organizers to seek assistance with strategy, sponsorship, marketing, logistics, and business practices. A solo version, the Valkyrie Ultra Heptathlon, allows a single athlete to undertake all seven disciplines.
