IRONMAN 70.3 Michigan begins in Frankfort, a small resort town on the Lake Michigan shore. This September 70.3-mile triathlon features a lake swim in Betsie Bay, a bike course through flat countryside, and a run that circles back around the bay. Race-day conditions can feel cool for long-course racing, with average air temperatures from 39°F to 52°F and average water around 65°F.
The course is built around the water: athletes swim in Betsie Bay, ride inland on flatter rural roads, then return to the shoreline for the run. Frankfort provides a beach-town atmosphere, with the pier, sand, and Lake Michigan sunsets near the finish area. The layout is described as smooth and approachable, attracting experienced triathletes seeking a fast day as well as newer 70.3 racers wanting a less intimidating course.
