Sobre esta carrera
The Trail du Galibier-Thabor centers on a two-day mountain trail with a bivouac under the stars at Les Rochilles. This series takes place each summer in the Maurienne valley of Savoie, near Valloire, Valmeinier, and Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne, offering races for mountain runners. The schedule ranges from short village trails to demanding alpine events, with distances including 3 km, 5 km, 10 km, 12 km, 22 or 23 km, 32 or 33 km, 52 or 54 km, and a long two-day Galibier-Thabor race noted as 67 to 75 km. A 12 km Nordic walk is also available, ensuring the weekend caters to participants beyond those aiming for the longest course.
The courses traverse the high terrain between the Galibier and Thabor regions, featuring significant climbs even in the mid-distance races. The 10 km Trail Pom-Pom involves approximately 500 m of elevation gain, the Trail des Aiguilles ascends around 1,270 m, and the Trail du Galibier reaches about 3,360 m. The extended race begins in Valmeinier, includes an overnight stop at Les Rochilles, and proceeds towards Valloire, structuring it as a staged mountain journey. The Col du Galibier lends the event a recognizable name for cycling enthusiasts, as it is a well-known Tour de France ascent. Youth races, Les Loupiots in Valloire and Les Louveteaux in Valmeinier, are part of the program, which originated from a small local event in the early 2000s.
