About this race
Banjo Patterson Park sends you out into the Snowy Mountains before most people are awake, and Ultra Trail Kosciuszko by UTMB® is not an easy race. This is alpine country: meadows, snow gum forests, pastoral lands, granite outcrops, ski villages, clear creeks and lakes, all building toward Mt Kosciuszko, the highest peak on Mainland Australia. It has the feel of a proper ultra, the sort that will “test your mind, body and soul.”
The route traces Lake Jindabyne, turns onto the Thredbo Valley Trail, then climbs to the alpine plateau through Perisher, Charlotte Pass, Guthega and Smiggin Holes. Later you drop back into the Thredbo Valley, grind up and over the Thredbo Ski area, and finish at Friday Flat in Thredbo. Ultra runners show up for “Australia’s alpine playground,” but also for the runnable, supported miles that can feel flowy until the mountain reminds you who is in charge.
