The Grizzly Ultra Marathon is a 50 km mountain ultra held at the Canmore Nordic Centre. Solo runners complete the full distance, while relay teams divide it among two or five participants. The event attracts significant attention, typically selling out well before race day, and is considered one of Canada’s larger ultra events.
The course consists of five legs, all beginning and ending in the main stadium at the Nordic Centre, simplifying the relay format. The entire route features 1,595 meters of elevation gain. Each leg receives a Grizzly Claw Rating based on distance and climbing: Leg 3 is rated the most challenging at 5 Claws, and Leg 5 the least at 1 Claw, allowing teams to assign runners to sections aligning with their capabilities.
