About this race
The IRONMAN 70.3 Switzerland in Rapperswil-Jona begins with a 1.9 km swim in the Obersee, the upper section of Lake Zurich. This is a middle-distance triathlon, covering 70.3 miles in total across swimming, cycling, and running. The event takes place in Rapperswil-Jona and attracts competitors from outside Switzerland, with top finishers competing for IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship qualifications.
The 90 km cycling course follows the lake's edge. The subsequent half-marathon consists of two 10.5 km circuits. This run segment offers the race its most distinct local character: participants go through Rapperswil’s old town, cross Fischmarktplatz, and ascend the "Stairway to heaven" steps towards the castle. Spectators can easily track the race as the final leg passes through the town twice.
