About this race
Ultra Bielersee is a May running weekend held at Lago Lodge in Nidau, on the Swiss shore of Lake Biel. The main event is a 50 km trail ultra with an 8-hour time limit. It is accompanied by a 50 km relay, a 40 km walking event, the Hagneck half marathon, longer Bielersee XXL distances of 120, 160, and 200 km, and a 72-hour race for those seeking a challenge far beyond a standard ultra.
The 50 km course circles Lake Biel, including a detour to St. Petersinsel. It consists of approximately half natural paths and half asphalt, with about 100 meters of elevation gain. Support crews are permitted, but must avoid three no-vehicle zones and refrain from impeding runners. The field is select and competitive: recent 50 km races have seen just over 70 to 110 finishers, with top male runners completing the course in under three hours. Organizers offer a complimentary entry to runners whose marathon best is under 2:30, encouraging a sub-three-hour 50 km around Bielersee.
