About this race
The "Expedition der alten Mauern" (Call of the Old Walls) is an orientation race held in Isenburg, Germany, in late September. It takes place between castles and palaces. This is not a marked-road race; participants receive the coordinates of required sites one day before the start. They then plan their own route and order to reach each point before returning to the finish. The 70 km course includes approximately 1,600 meters of elevation gain, positioned between the 25 km, 40 km, and 90 km options.
The course emphasizes route planning alongside physical speed, as each participant determines their path between the old walls instead of following a set sequence. All participants are equipped with GPS tracking, and timing is handled electronically via RaceResult, with results based on net time. Road crossings are not secured, and standard traffic regulations are in effect. Participants are responsible for their own food and hydration during the race. A runner's breakfast is provided before the start, and a refreshment station is available at the finish.
