About this race
Winterlauf Rund um die Katze is a 15 km road race in Saalfeld an der Saale, Thuringia, run in winter and first held in 1982. It starts at the Sportplatz on Langenschader Straße and is organized by Saalfelder Leichtathletik-Verein, with a field usually under 100 runners. The course is officially measured, counting as a proper 15 km race.
The route loops from the sports ground around the local “Katze” landmark, then goes through Langenschade and Schloßkulm before returning to the sports ground. Results are scored by DLV age groups, making it a club-style competition for youth, open, and masters runners. Overall winners receive trophies, and the setup is simple: online registration through the club, a modest entry fee, and changing rooms and showers at the venue.
