About this race
Backyard Ultra Llagostera is a backyard ultra held in Llagostera, Spain, and is a new event on the Backyard calendar. Participants begin a new lap each hour, continuing until only one runner remains. The race emphasizes sustained effort over a set duration, testing who can manage the repeated exertion the longest. Its inaugural event attracted 168 starters from numerous Spanish provinces and countries such as Estonia and Austria.
The course covers 130 meters of elevation gain per loop, with rooty sections adding technical difficulty compared to a flat, road-style backyard course. Toni Guerrero directs the event, assisted by approximately 50 volunteers. Tempo Finito handles timing, Francesc provides announcing, and Jordi Santacana photographs the race. The organizers featured each participant on Instagram prior to the start. The race village offered a communal atmosphere over two days, including rice stews for Saturday lunch and a bonfire with grilled meat for those still present late. The event also benefits Oncol, providing the new race with a charitable cause and a distinct local-organization identity.
