About this race
The Course nature au château de la Roche Courbon is a weekend race series held at the Château de la Roche Courbon in Saint-Porchaire. It centers on trail running, walking, children's races, and nature sport. It began in 2013 from a "crazy idea" to allow all types of participants, not solely experienced runners, access to the château grounds. The event now anticipates approximately 2,600 participants and continues to be guided by its original principles: sport for all, nature, and local heritage.
The schedule includes Saturday evening hikes and school cross-country races, followed on Sunday by trail runs, an 8 km nature run, children's races, and the 6 km obstacle race named the Folle Roche. The two primary trails, measuring over 14 km and 23 km, are included in the Charente-Maritime trail challenge, connecting races throughout the department from Matha to Fort Boyard. Both licensed and unlicensed runners are welcome, resulting in a mix of strong regional competitors alongside families, walkers, and casual nature-sport enthusiasts. Les Amis du château manages the logistics, supported by around 120 volunteers who ensure the weekend runs smoothly and maintains a fair-play spirit respectful of the location.
