About this race
La Ronde du Terroir is a nature running event in Beaumes-de-Venise, a Vaucluse village in Provence, set among Muscat vineyards and olive trees. It takes place on the first Sunday of December, at the close of autumn, offering two primary distances: a shorter race of approximately 13 km and a longer trail of about 23 km. The event originated from off-stadium running and now directs participants mostly onto paths, tracks, and singletrack, with over 80% of the course off-road.
The races are situated below the Oppidum des Courens, a Gallo-Roman hill settlement, with the Dentelles de Montmirail mountains to the north and the Comtat Venaissin plain extending towards Carpentras to the south. The 13 km course involves around 300 m of elevation gain, while the 23 km trail presents a greater challenge with approximately 950 m of climbing. The longer route begins through the narrow streets of old Beaumes-de-Venise, then ascends steeply over rocky terrain towards the Oppidum des Courens, descends sharply into Vallat Durban alongside the Lauchun river, and concludes its demanding off-road section near the base of the Dentelle de Montmirail.
