About this race
The Marathon de Vannes begins near the old ramparts of Vannes, sending runners on a 42.195 km course through Brittany’s Morbihan region. This annual race typically takes place on the third Sunday of October. The marathon is the primary event, complemented by shorter races and team options. The weekend also features the 10KM Gwened Nocturne on Saturday evening, a two-person Duo de l’Hermine relay, a four-runner company relay, and shorter distances including 5 km and 20 km options.
The marathon course consists of two loops, with over 20 km crossing coastal paths along the Golfe du Morbihan. Participants will pass Île de Conleau, the port, parklands, wooded areas, and the historic center before concluding at Kercado stadium. The event emphasizes local Breton culture, with musical groups performing samba, rock, jazz, and traditional Breton tunes. Regional food tastings, such as oysters and salted butter caramel, are available along the route. As part of the Festiviales group of French races, it offers a basket of oysters to costumed runners and has supported coastal protection efforts since 2013.
