The Marathon des Capables is an 800 km relay from Paris to Marseille, run over 18 days in mid-September. Runners with and without motor, sensory, intellectual, psychological, or chronic-illness-related disabilities share the route. Participants can join for a short portion, one stage, or several stages. It is not timed, has no rankings, and emphasizes moving together over racing.
The route is split into 18 stages across France, with daily sections ranging from 28 to 63 km. Some parts pass through forests, along canals, and through towns and villages. Shorter “green portions” of 5 to 10 km use smoother, secure, adapted terrain for disabled participants and anyone else who wants that option. The event is supported by Les Lueurs de l’Espoir and was launched by a well-followed Olympique de Marseille supporter with two friends to help people with disabilities get into sport.
