About this race
The Atlantic Coast 40 Miler is a 40-mile, 64K ultra in North Cornwall, held in October. It starts at Fistral Beach in Newquay and finishes at St Ives Bay Holiday Park near Hayle, following the coast to the Hayle River Mouth. Event HQ is at the finish, where runners register before taking buses to the start. The race welcomes participants who plan to run, walk, or keep moving by any means, and a generous cut-off time allows steady progress throughout the day.
The route utilizes the South West Coast Path, identified by the Acorn sign. Organizers prioritize self-navigation over a heavily marshalled road race atmosphere. The terrain is rugged, featuring steep ascents and descents that demand both focus and physical conditioning. Checkpoints are situated approximately every 10 miles, providing sustenance, hydration, time recording, medical support, GPS trackers, live maps, and retrieval by minibus for those who withdraw. Epic Endurance Events CIC organizes the event, and all finishers are awarded a custom medal and a T-shirt.
