Dovedale Dash 2026

The Dovedale Dash begins below Thorpe Cloud, near registration, sending 1,200 to 1,400 runners over 4 3/4 miles of cross-country terrain around Thorpe, near Ashbourne and Dovedale in the southern Derbyshire Peak District. First held in 1953, the race starts at 11 am and attracts a broad field of participants, not exclusively a narrow racing crowd. The course follows field paths and open ground in the valleys of the River Dove and River Manifold. Crossing the Dove at the Stepping Stones is a notable feature. Running clubs utilize the Dash for competitive racing and championships, while many participants run for enjoyment or in costume. Local volunteers organize the event, with profits benefiting local charities and the maintenance of Thorpe Village Hall. A Mini Dash is also held for participants under 12 and under 9, covering approximately 1 1/4 miles down to the River Dove, under Thorpe Cloud, and back up Lin Dale to the main race finish.
