About this race
Nuclear Fallout OCR Races start and finish from the Secret Nuclear Bunker at Kelvedon Hatch in Essex, which gives the event a setting most obstacle races cannot copy. It is a muddy obstacle-course race with chip timing and three main options: a 6km race with 40-plus obstacles, a 12km race made from two laps of the same 6km route, and the 24km Oblivion Maxx endurance race for runners who want a much longer day out. The 6km is open to ages 14 and up, while the 12km and 24km races are for ages 17 and up.
The route sends runners through rugged farmland, woodland, lakes, and heavy mud, with both natural and man-made obstacles packed into each lap. The shorter race gives newer OCR runners a manageable version of the course, while the 12km doubles the work and the 24km pushes competitors through three laps and more than 200 obstacles. A useful detail is that competitors can attempt as many or as few obstacles as they like, so the event can work for people testing themselves as well as stronger racers chasing a full obstacle count.
