About this race
The Surrey 3 Peaks Challenge connects three of Surrey’s high points in one day: Leith Hill at 294m, Holmbury Hill at 261m, and Box Hill at 224m. It is an endurance hike, not a race, covering about 18 to 21 miles and taking 8 to 11 hours depending on pace, fitness, and route choice. The route includes significant climbing, with over 800m up to about 1,100m of total ascent, requiring steady legs.
The usual route starts near Box Hill, often from Ryker’s Cafe, heading anti-clockwise toward Holmbury Hill before linking the three summits. Other versions start from the Box Hill main car park or from Leith Hill’s Shoe Tree car park, with walkers choosing a linear or circular route. Features along the way can include Salomon’s Memorial, Denbies Vineyard, Leith Hill tower, and wide views across the Surrey Hills. Corporate teams, charity groups, friends, and guided walking groups use it as a one-day challenge because it is demanding enough to feel like an achievement without needing multi-day logistics.
