About this race
Ultra X Wales is a trail-running series held in the Brecon Beacons, beginning north of Abergavenny each July. Participants can select distances from 12km to 110km, including a 110km single-stage race, a 110km multi-stage race, and shorter 60km, 50km, and 25km options. The races contribute to UTMB Index categories at the 100K, 50K, and 20K levels, appealing to both runners seeking qualification points and those new to mountain trails.
The routes traverse the Black Mountains on the eastern side of the national park, featuring a blend of runnable paths and technical trails across hills and valleys. Checkpoints are positioned approximately every 10km, offering water, snacks, shelter, and medical support. This provision is important given the potential for rapid changes in weather and terrain. The variety of distances attracts a diverse field: seasoned ultrarunners can tackle the full 110km, while less experienced trail runners can explore the same terrain over a shorter distance.
