About this race

Last Man Backyard Cervia is a backyard ultra held in Cervia, Italy. Runners begin from the Riviera dei Pini area on Viale Italia, completing a 6.71 km loop. If a runner finishes within the hour, they wait for the next start. The initial loop commences at 13:00, with subsequent loops starting precisely on the hour. The required pace is 8:56 per kilometre, which may seem manageable initially, but becomes challenging as rest periods shorten, fatigue accumulates, and the race demands another circuit. The rules are straightforward: failing to start the next loop on the hour, choosing not to continue, or being unable to proceed results in a DNF. There is no predetermined finish distance; the race concludes when only one runner remains capable of starting the next loop. Each loop includes 45 metres of elevation gain, meaning the course is not entirely flat and will present challenges to fatigued participants. The event also alters the typical finish-line outcome: participants who withdraw receive a DNF medal along with event merchandise like a backpack and shirt. The victor is the sole individual who avoids accepting a DNF.
