About this race
The Tokai Peninsula Giant Trail 100 is a 100-mile trail race in Aichi Prefecture. It begins at Nakayama Beach on the Atsumi Peninsula and concludes at Takeshima Pier Green Space in Gamagori. The primary 160 km course features approximately 6,100 m of elevation gain. A separate 90 km race commences in Toyohashi, merging with the longer route partway through. This event is intended for experienced mountain runners. Participants must be adults, capable of sustained effort on mountain terrain, self-sufficient in managing their condition, proficient with smartphone or paper map navigation, and able to descend safely.
The 160 km course crosses the Atsumi Peninsula from its southern tip, passing through Tahara, Toyohashi, Shinshiro, Toyokawa, Okazaki, and Gamagori. It connects the Mikawa Bay coastline with the Toyohashi Nature Trail and ascends mountains including Kisshozan, Motoyamasan, Miyajisan, and Goin-san. The race is non-marking, meaning runners rely on provided GPX data, maps, and their own navigation skills rather than course signs or ribbons. Each distance category has a 150-runner limit, maintaining a small field for an extended event. Aid stations and the finish line have cutoffs; runners missing these are stopped and guided out by staff. The course's appeal lies in its linear progression, linking coastal areas, forests, mountain trails, urban peripheries, and a final approach to Gamagori.
