Farsund Maraton begins on the town square in Farsund, Norway, utilizing the flat Lista landscape for a road race with distances from 1 km to the full marathon. The marathon is officially measured at just over 42.195 km; participants must be at least 18 years old for this distance. Lista idrettslag organizes the event, which also features 5 km, 10 km, half marathon, shorter children's races, and relay events. The marathon course includes about 2.1 km within town before ascending from the square, then proceeds over a mix of gravel and asphalt. Over a third of the course runs on gravel roads alongside water and through cultivated rural areas, with the remainder mostly on paved roads past notable buildings and open ocean vistas. The route has minimal elevation changes, with adjusted sections between Stave and Lista lighthouse, and between the racetrack and Hanangervannet at Kviljo. Full marathon participants can opt for an early start one hour before the main race, accommodating a broader range of runners for the longer distance.
