Big Trig Rogaine 2026

SUN, December 6, 2026 · Lower Hutt , New Zealand

About this race

Big Trig Rogaine is an annual team navigation race in the Wellington region, organised by Orienteering Hutt Valley. Teams of two to five people choose either a 3-hour or 6-hour challenge on foot, then use a map to find as many controls as they can before time runs out. It is a rogaine, so there is no fixed route: the skill is deciding which checkpoints are worth chasing, how much climbing to take on, and when to head back before the cut-off. The course spreads up to 50 controls across Wellington hill country, with routes through hills, tracks, bush, and open terrain. Teams must stay together, and they prove each control visit by answering a simple question, often about a man-made feature or an orange ribbon with a code word. The shorter event gives families and recreational teams a way into rogaining, while the 6-hour option suits experienced rogainers, adventure racers, trail runners, and outdoor navigation people who want a longer physical test. The name is literal: “Big” means it is bigger than the club’s regular rogaines, and “Trig” means hills are part of the deal. Pizza waits at the finish.
