About this race
Clifton Station provides this kids' race a farm-and-mud atmosphere, with the Hawke's Bay Junior Tough Guy and Gal Challenge designed as a muddy adventure rather than a neat run around markers. It is intended for primary and intermediate-aged children, with separate divisions for younger and older school years, so the participants seem like kids tackling their own challenge, not adults guiding them through one.
The enjoyment comes from the mess: kid-sized obstacles like mud pits, climbing walls, and crawling tunnels allow children to test their abilities and build confidence without the pretense of a serious endurance event. They can compete with their friends or proceed at their own speed, making the supportive atmosphere as important as their time. Whether they are experienced participants or new racers, every competitor receives a finisher's medal, and the muddy grin at the finish line is the objective.
