The Oceania Triathlon Cup Auckland is part of the Auckland Triathlon Festival, a new waterfront triathlon event in central Auckland near the start of the southern summer. It includes elite racing and public entries on the same programme: the Continental Cup is for top able-bodied athletes, while age-group and community racers can enter a sprint triathlon from age 16.
The public race uses the standard sprint format: a 750m swim, 20km bike, and 5km run, with the harbour giving the event its local setting. The festival also hosts the Oceania Para Championships, the main showpiece, so elite paratriathletes share the Auckland waterfront course with Continental Cup racers and everyday participants.
