Bieg Krzyżaka is a short tower race in Człuchów. Runners ascend 250 stairs inside the Teutonic Castle tower. The task is straightforward and demanding: begin at the tower entrance, sprint upward, and halt only at the summit. Organized for several years, it requires participants to be at least 15 years old, as the exertion is akin to a strenuous 400-600 meter sprint rather than a typical road race.
Competitors run individually, making the event a time trial against the staircase itself, not a mass start. The field is limited to 45 participants due to logistical constraints, ensuring a focused and intense competition. Top finishers in the men's and women's categories are awarded cups, and all who complete the race receive a commemorative medal and a meal to aid recovery.
