About this race
Rowerowy Bieg Piastów GIGA is the long mountain-bike race of the Rowerowy Bieg Piastów, based in Szklarska Poręba-Jakuszyce in Poland’s Izerskie Mountains. This cycling event is the youngest part of the wider Bieg Piastów family, but after more than a decade it has its own regular participants. It is held at the end of the organizer’s yearly event cycle and uses the Dolnośląskie Centrum Sportu Polana Jakuszycka as its race base. The full program includes many levels, from children’s rides of 300 meters and 1 km to adult mountain-bike and gravel races, with the GIGA route covering a little over 60 km.
The GIGA course is challenging: mud, grass, fast asphalt descents, steep climbs, soft traps, and rocky sections that alternate between uphill and downhill. Riders start and finish in Jakuszyce, with the route crossing mountain terrain ranging from about 552 meters to over 1000 meters above sea level. One of its defining features is the steep descent after Wysoki Kamień toward Zakręt Śmierci, a section that can determine the race outcome. The event attracts club riders and ambitious amateurs from Poland and nearby countries, and the final ceremony also honors the winners of the Wielki Jakuszycki Szlem.
