About this race
The Meia Maratona do Porto is a mid-September half marathon held in Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia, with the Douro River largely defining the route. This 21.1 km road race, sponsored as the Hyundai Porto Half Marathon, is part of Run Porto’s main annual calendar, alongside the Porto Marathon and São Silvestre do Porto. A shorter race option is also available, ensuring the event caters to participants beyond those aiming for a half marathon time.
The course begins near Freixo Bridge, proceeds west past Cais de Gaia and Afurada, then reverses direction. It crosses the Douro via Dom Luís Bridge, eventually heading toward the river mouth before concluding at Jardim do Calém - Fluvial. The elite fields typically feature strong East African and Portuguese competitors, and East African athletes have historically dominated the winners’ lists, with past champions including Haile Gebrselassie, Samuel Wanjiru, and Berhane Adere. Zersenay Tadese holds the men’s course record at 59:30, and the women’s record is listed as 1:07:13 by Enatnesh Tirusew.
