Madeira Backyard Ultra

Madeira Backyard Ultra is a limited-field Backyard Ultra held in Machico, Madeira, starting at Parque Desportivo de Agua de Pena. The race follows the standard format: participants begin at 09:00, complete a 6.706 km loop, and must return before the hour concludes. Any remaining time within the hour is allocated for rest before the subsequent start. The participant limit is 100, creating a more personal atmosphere compared to larger ultra-marathons. Runners repeat the identical loop until a single participant remains. The course consists of stone paving, wooden boardwalk, and cement, featuring approximately 230 feet of elevation gain per lap. Clube Escola do Estreito - Madeira is the organizing body, with Sergio Catarino and Marco Caires serving as race directors. Although the event is new, Adriano Furtado established a challenging local record by completing 37 loops, covering over 248 km on the Madeira circuit.
