About this race
The Bellingham Bay Marathon is a late-September race weekend in Bellingham, Washington. It offers a full marathon, half marathon, 10K, 5K, marathon relay, and an early-start option for walkers. The event is designed for both runners and walkers, not just a standard marathon with shorter races. It began in 2007 with the Bellingham Bay Swim Team, and all net proceeds benefit youth nonprofit groups in Whatcom County.
The course provides open views of Bellingham Bay, the San Juan Islands, and the North Cascades, a key reason the race is noted as one of the more scenic road events in the Pacific Northwest. Participants include marathoners, relay teams, half marathoners, 10K and 5K runners, and walkers using the early-start option. Local youth sports benefit from the event, with past beneficiaries including the Bellingham Bay Swim Team and Whatcom Football Club Rangers.
