About this race
City to Sky begins and ends near Missoula’s University District, directing runners immediately into the hills above town. The series features two trail races: a 50K and a 25K. The 50K spans over 33 miles with approximately 8,000 feet of elevation gain. With under two miles on pavement, it is primarily a dirt, ridge, and summit run, not a road race with a trail component.
The 50K route encircles the Pattee Creek Watershed, utilizing Missoula open space, conservation land, and urban recreation areas. The 25K follows the latter half of the 50K course along the House of Sky Ridgeline Trail. Participants are bused to the 25K start at Pattee Canyon Picnic Area, then ascend the Sam Braxton Trail towards Mitten Mountain before descending Mount Dean Stone. Run Wild Missoula organizes the event, open to ages 14 to 99, with proceeds benefiting Montana Trail Crew Projects.
