About this race
The Flagstaff to Grand Canyon Stagecoach Line Ultra begins north of Flagstaff, Arizona, at Flagstaff Hotshots Ranch on Snowbowl Road and concludes in Tusayan, near the Grand Canyon National Park entrance. The event offers a 100-mile run, a 55K run, and a 100-mile mountain bike race, with the primary run slightly under 100 miles. It takes place in September across northern Arizona's high-country terrain, starting at approximately 7,400 feet, ascending to 8,800 feet at Aspen Corner, and finishing near 6,600 feet. The 100-mile course features about 7,000 feet of elevation gain, with much of it suitable for running rather than solely hiking.
The course utilizes sections of the Arizona Trail and the historic Flagstaff-to-Grand Canyon Stage Line, a turn-of-the-century tourist path. Numerous aid stations are located at original stage stops and watering points, integrating genuine historical travel sites into the race. The terrain transitions from singletrack to two-track and dirt forest roads, passing through ponderosa pine, alpine aspen, pinion-juniper grasslands, Hart Prairie Preserve, Babbitt Ranch, and the Coconino Rim. Participants will run past a shoulder of Humphreys Peak, Arizona's highest mountain, before the course opens to vistas of the Painted Desert, Navajo Mountain, and the Grand Canyon.
