About this race
Scout Mountain Ultras is a mountain trail-running weekend held on the first weekend of June in Pocatello, Idaho. It offers runners four distances: 23 miles, 50K, 50 miles, and 100 miles. None are casual jogs. The 23-mile loop climbs and descends over 5,400 feet, the 50K has about 7,400 feet of ascent and descent, the 50-mile race is 53.8 miles with over 10,900 feet of climbing and dropping, and the 100-mile course accumulates about 23,800 feet of gain and loss. The 100-mile race qualifies for the Hardrock Endurance Run, indicating the seriousness of the terrain.
The routes utilize the Scout Mountain area near Pocatello. The shortest race summits Scout Mountain on a loop described as the best singletrack of the event. The 50K includes areas like Gibson Jack and West Fork, while the 50-mile race incorporates sections of the 100-mile route. Early June weather can still present snow and mud, particularly on the longer courses. The event also emphasizes environmental stewardship: directors work to minimize waste, reconsider runner handouts, link participants with conservation groups, and direct race proceeds to environmental causes. At least half of each race's field is reserved for women, femme, and non-binary runners, and six hours of volunteering grants early registration access for the next edition.
