About this race
The Skunk Hollow Sneaker Chase & Backyard Ultra is a trail race in Casper, Wyoming, held at the Casper Mountain Trails Center. Participants can select an 8-mile race or a Backyard Ultra, which continues with 4.17-mile laps until a single runner remains. With a total entry limit of 75, the event has the feel of a local, intimate race day rather than a large-scale competition.
The 8-mile race consists of two laps, with the course direction alternating annually: clockwise in even years and counter-clockwise in odd years. The Backyard Ultra introduces a unique element where a coin toss determines the direction of each lap. The trails center serves as the location for parking, the start and finish lines, and the post-race gathering. The Backyard Ultra is recognized in the Big’s Backyard Ultra database. Race founder M. Diesburg established the event to encourage runners to surpass their perceived limitations, a concept well-suited to the last-runner-standing format.
