About this race

Tale of Two Trails begins and ends at Shelter 8 in Shawnee Mission Park, Shawnee, Kansas. This is a multi-distance trail race offering 10, 20, 40, and 50 mile options, utilizing one or both of the park’s trail systems. The longer loop measures approximately 20 miles, and the organizers consider the distances to be "-ish" due to potential variations in GPS readings on the trails. The course combines smooth, runnable sections with rooty, rocky, and rolling terrain, appealing to runners seeking authentic trail conditions within the park. Much of the route is shaded by trees, interspersed with some open areas. It is marked with flags, ribbons, and directional signs, while the trails remain accessible to other park visitors. Aid stations are stocked in an ultrarunning fashion with provisions, but they are cupless, requiring participants to bring a reusable cup for drinks and soup. Drop bags are permitted for the longer races, overall podium awards are presented, and all finishers get a medal.
