About this race
Texmas Trail Race is a December event held at Buescher State Park in Smithville, Texas. The primary distances are composed of repeated seven-mile loops. Participants can select from 104k, 57k, 21 miles, 14 miles, 7 miles, or 1 mile. The 104k distance also offers a four-person relay and a ruck option. The event is limited to 500 runners, creating a more intimate trail gathering rather than a large race-day crowd. Starts are staggered throughout the morning, beginning with the 104k at 6:00 am and concluding with the 1-mile race at 9:00 am. The event has a hard cutoff at 2:00 am, and no new loops can be started after 11:45 pm.
Each loop features approximately 450 feet of climbing and descent, allowing longer races to accumulate elevation gain without a single large mountain. The course follows narrow trails and single track within the Lost Pines Forest, incorporating smaller inclines and rocky sections. This format attracts solo ultrarunners, relay teams, ruckers, club runners, and individuals participating in a single loop or a shorter trail race. Finishers receive large buckles and race swag. However, the distance rules are strictly enforced: once a race begins, switching to a shorter distance results in a DNF instead of a different award.
