Nagasaki Tachibana Wangan Super Maranic H・W & Shimabara Stage is an ultra-distance race on the Shimabara Peninsula held in late November. The 103km class begins in Obama and proceeds overnight to a finish the following afternoon. The race name is lengthy, and the distances clarify why: the series also features 273km and 320km divisions, meaning 103km participants join those who have been running much longer.
The 103km route remains largely flat for the initial 57km leading to Shimabara Castle, after which it transitions into a demanding mountain section. Participants spend extended periods running in darkness, with warm soup provided during the night. Checkpoint regulations are stringent, allowing for a runner's disqualification even at the 95km mark. A 55km spring course also exists in May, and this shorter event is characterized as difficult, reflecting the nature of the series.
