RunThrough Trails Ascona-Locarno is a Swiss trail race held in autumn, situated where Lake Maggiore meets mountain slopes. Racing is centered on Ascona-Locarno, featuring a Saturday evening vertical event. The main race begins in the city, proceeds through Piazza Grande, follows the river, and ascends into the mountains.
The course transitions from urban streets to wooded trails, then climbs Pizzo Leone to over 1600 metres. Runners gain expansive views of Lake Maggiore from the upper parts of the course. The evening vertical race presents a distinct challenge: participants use head torches to ascend the steps of the Sacred Mount, reaching the Madonna del Sasso Church. This event is suited for experienced trail runners, and the organizer also promotes it to newer runners seeking a mountain race with a distinct city-to-lake environment.
