The Gorbeia Suzien Skyrace begins in Zeanuri, located in Spain’s Basque Country, leading participants into the mountains of Gorbeia Natural Park. The primary event is a 32 km circuit featuring approximately 2,400 meters of elevation gain, classifying it as a genuine skyrace rather than a standard trail run. A 21 km alternative is available, but the main event is the full mountain course, offering participants 6.5 hours to complete it.
The course ascends through dense forest, reaching the Mount Gorbea cross at roughly 1,484 meters. It then crosses rocky ridgelines and technical descents on the return leg. Its local moniker, the “Zegama bizkaína,” resonates deeply with Spanish mountain runners, signifying its connection to the steep Basque terrain and the spirited local race atmosphere that defines Zegama. As a component of the Skyrunner World Series, Gorbeia Suzien attracts elite mountain athletes alongside local competitors seeking one of the Basque Country’s most demanding race challenges.
