UCI Gran Fondo La Nucía is a Spanish gran fondo held in La Nucía, inland from the Costa Blanca in Alicante. It is a new event on the UCI Gran Fondo World Series calendar and serves as an early qualifier for the next UCI Gran Fondo World Championships in France. The main ride is a challenging mountain course: 132 km with 2,275 m of climbing, intended for riders seeking a true endurance test rather than a flat group ride.
The route was designed by Miguel Indurain, the five-time Tour de France winner, and crosses a part of Alicante favored by many WorldTour teams for winter training camps. Participants begin in La Nucía and proceed into the high-mountain roads between the Costa Blanca and Alicante’s well-known climbs, featuring historic passes, long ascents, and wilder sections away from the coast. The event is in its second edition, and entries are nearing capacity, supported by a full cycling weekend that also attracts international racing figures for the La Nucía criterium.
