Les Portes de Bellefontaine is a forest trail event in Champigneulles, a town in Meurthe-et-Moselle located about 15 minutes from Nancy. It takes place in early November within the Bellefontaine forest, offering a main 18 km trail race, a 14 km Nordic walk, and longer endurance trail formats of 4 and 8 hours. The 18 km race is the most popular, featuring 360 m of elevation gain, marking it as a true trail run distinct from a flat road race.
All formats utilize a single-loop course, covering the 18 km trail, the 14 km walk, and the timed endurance races. The 8-hour Endurance Trail presents the greatest challenge on paper, with 1500 m of climbing and a time-based format rather than a set distance. The event attracts a modest field, with over 100 participants in the last edition, creating a local forest race atmosphere where participants select their preferred level of exertion.
