The Marathon des Villages begins at the Marché de Piraillan in Lège-Cap-Ferret, on France’s Atlantic coast in Gironde. This October weekend event offers a 42.195 km solo marathon, a two-person marathon relay, and an 11 km hike. It accommodates runners seeking the full distance and those who prefer to share the effort or walk.
The marathon starts at 9:30 AM, with a 6 hour 30 minute cutoff for the full-distance race.
The route crosses the Lège-Cap-Ferret peninsula, passing through pine forests, oyster villages, coastal paths, the ocean, and Arcachon Bay. For the duo race, the handover point is back at the Marché de Piraillan, with the second runner completing 26 km. Aid stations are positioned approximately every 4 km, providing water, fruit, chips, syrup, and Coca-Cola from the 20 km mark. Finishers are awarded a technical shirt, a medal, and a bottle of wine. The post-race food includes sandwiches, oysters, and sausage with fries. With around 1,900 participants, the event has the atmosphere of a local peninsula gathering, distinct from a large city marathon.
