The SG Petch Sunderland City Runs feature a Saturday evening 5K and a Sunday 10K, half marathon, and Active Sunderland Big 3K on Sunderland's streets each May. Supported by Active Sunderland, the series caters to a wide range of participants: novice 5K runners, club athletes aiming for fast times, half-marathon participants, and families or less experienced runners in the 3K. The 10K began with just over 1,500 participants, and the event now attracts around 5,000 people over the weekend.
The 5K returns as a fast, flat course that incorporates the new Keel Crossing footbridge, offering a concise Saturday evening race before Sunday's main events. The 10K and half marathon begin near each other on Sunday morning, creating a unified city event atmosphere rather than distinct races. The 10K maintains its competitive nature with cash prizes, Nike gear, complimentary entry for top finishers, and veteran awards in older categories.
