From the ferry terminal area in Picton to the finish in Havelock, this is a point-to-point relay through the Queen Charlotte Sound region and Marlborough Sound. First run in 1982, the Queen Charlotte Relay has the feel of an old road-club fixture: a team day out, but with enough history behind it that people still care how they go.
The route is a coastal-road race experience, split into five legs over road and path, with the work shared between runners or walkers. You will see running teams, walking groups, and mixed-pace teams, all combining teamwork and scenic Marlborough Sound surroundings. The walkers grade has its own relaxed quirk too: walkers are not refereed, so it stays social rather than technical.
