Azinhal, a traditional village in Castro Marim in Portugal’s Algarve, hosts the Duatlo Cross do Azinhal, a run-bike-run race distinct from standard road events. The format is straightforward and challenging: 5 kilometers on foot, 20 kilometers by bike, followed by a final 2.5 kilometers of running. Athletes aged 16 and over are eligible, welcoming both Portuguese and foreign participants, and both federated and non-federated competitors may compete.
The race is a stage in the Regional Championship of Algarve and Baixo Alentejo, extending its significance beyond a local village event. Regional champions are determined here, with the winners earning Championship Jerseys. Leões do Sul Futebol Club and the Municipality of Castro Marim organize the event, receiving assistance from the Azinhal parish council and Núcleo do Sporting de VRSA. It is also included in the Eurocity of Guadiana sports program, linking the race to the broader cross-border region surrounding the Guadiana River.
