CAK5K on the Runway places runners and walkers on the actual runways at Akron-Canton Airport in Green, Ohio. The start and finish are at MAPS Air Museum. This 5K run/walk, hosted by the airport, includes adult and youth options, plus a Lil' Captains Dash for younger children. The event is part of the Green Great 8 Race Series, provides military discounts, and has attracted over 1,000 participants in previous years.
The course crosses the Ohio Air Guard Facility and is described as the flattest in the region, fitting for a race on airport pavement. Shortly after mile 2.2, participants encounter the Afterburner Zone, a 100-meter sprint within the 5K course offering its own age-group awards. The main 5K awards the top five men and women overall, masters categories, seniors, and age-group finishers. Proceeds benefit Adaptive Sports Ohio and MAPS Air Museum. Medals, food, drinks, and a post-race party are provided around the museum.
