The Honoring our Heroes Marathon takes place in November between Salem and Rolla, Missouri, focusing on veterans' causes. Participants can select from a marathon, half marathon, relay, 10K, 5K, virtual race, or a ruck division with 20- and 40-pound options. The full and half marathons are Boston qualifiers and also serve as the USATF Ozark Association Open and Masters Championships.
The road course crosses hilly rural terrain and is almost entirely paved. The relay involves four-person teams covering the marathon in approximately six-mile segments, while the 10K circles Rolla’s Veterans Park. The event funds charities supporting veterans, provides reduced entry for veterans, active military, spouses, and dependents, and maintains an intimate atmosphere with a few hundred participants. Race weekend features a Pasta Party and Expo in Salem, Hero of the Mile signs along the Honor Walk, and a post-race gathering near the finish at Rolla Lion’s Den.
