The Towpath Marathon

The Towpath Marathon begins at Canal Basin Park on the east bank of The Flats in downtown Cleveland, directing runners onto the Towpath Trail. This autumn running event offers three distances: a 10K, a half marathon, and a certified marathon course eligible as a Boston qualifier. Runners unable to attend in person can participate in virtual race options. The course traces the canal-side trail, passing sites connected to Cleveland’s canal and river heritage, such as Camp Cleveland and the Towpath Mounds, while providing views of the Cuyahoga River Valley and the downtown skyline. It marks the concluding race of the Towpath Trilogy, a series that benefits Canalway Partners, the organization responsible for improvements to the Towpath Trail, Canal Basin Park, and other initiatives within the Ohio & Erie Canalway National Heritage Area.
